David T. Lewis

     David T. Lewis 'David T. Lewis was born in Wales in 1825, and in 1833, when eight years of age, was brought to this country by his mother . He was a school teacher during the early years of this manhood and achieved and subsequently followed various pursuits, in each of which he earned a comfortable livelihood. He served two terms in the borough of Blakely as justice of the peace: served as constable, assessor and road commissioner in the village of Peckville, and assessor in the village of Providence. Mr. Lewis is a member of the Baptist Church, and an adherent of the Republican party. His wife, Hannah H. (Hubbard) Lewis, who was born in Scott township, Lackawanna county, Pennsylvania in 1826, bore him the following named children: Helen V., wife of the Rev. George A. Cure, of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Wyoming Conference: Frank H., and M.D. . . Both Mr. Lewis and his wife are living at the present time (1906)'(Genealogical & Family History of the Wyoming & Lackawanna Valleys, PennVol 2)

David enlisted on 3 May 1864 as a private at age 39 and was promoted to full sargent. He claimed on his enlistment papers that his residence as New York and worked as a boatman. He served in K Co. 2nd Cav Reg MA and was discharged on 20 July 1865 at Fairfax Court House, VA.

David's headstone is inscribed 'Husband of Hannah H. Hubbard' and Hannah's headstone is inscribed 'Wife of David T. Lewis' both are buried together in Scott Valley Cemetery in Lackawanna Co, PA.
